Aquariums are available in a number of shapes, the most popular being rectangular. However, aquariums are not an item that can be set up and then left unattended. Aquariums are easy to keep up with as long as tank maintenance is performed periodically and with a little care.

Aquarium

To maintain a clean aquarium, there are some daily tasks that must be done. First and foremost, it’s important to check the temperature of the tank and make sure it stays consistent. For tropical freshwater fish, the temperature should average at around 77 degrees. Too much heat in your aquarium will promote the growth of algae. Always check for sick or dead fish daily. If you have a sick fish, it should be removed from the tank immediately or it may harm the other inhabitants of the aquarium.

Wipe down the inner and outer glass of the aquarium to keep any algae from accumulating on the inside; this helps to improve the condition of the water as well as enabling you to see the fish. Never use any kind of detergent or soap to clean inside or outside the aquarium, as the chemicals will cause harm and distress to the fish. Take care in cleaning the inside of the aquarium glass as gravel will scratch it if you happen to pick some up when you put your hand inside. Although you may think its a good idea to periodically change all of the aquariums water to give the fish a fresh start this is a very bad idea. Click to continue »

Allergies in dogs, actually put your dogs more at risk than dogs without allergies, because they cause the ears to become inflamed and this makes the ears naturally heat up, producing the breeding ground for yeast and bacteria, and also lays the ground for chronic forms of ear infections. Dogs that are more sensitive to allergies, thus, will also be more susceptible to ear infections. Some of these breeds include Poodles, Cocker Spaniels, Retrievers and Schnauzers. Dog ear infections are also commonly called Otitis Externa. It is an infection of the outer ear canal. There are three parts to the ear; the outer, the middle, and the inner ear. Ninety percent of infections occur in the outer ear.

These infections can be chronic conditions that linger on, especially external ear infections, or the can happen very suddenly.

The main causes of infection are allergies, bacteria, yeast and mites. Symptoms include head shaking, scratching, head tilting, personality and behavioral changes, appetite loss, odor, discharge, pain, bleeding and swelling.

Some of the signs of infections that your dog show is they will start to shake their head a lot as they are actually trying to get the debris and fluid out. They will constantly scratch their ears, and the ears will become inflamed and start to produce an offensive odor from the bacteria build up. These infections also will cause a discharge in the ear of fluid and even a puss like discharge, and because of the constant pain your pet is in, their behavior will change and they may start to whine, become irritable, and may actually become depressed as well. Knowing that it is one of the most useful skills in his entire life, it is important that you make it a point to teach the sit command in the early days of labrador retriever training. The said command is not only the basis for other more advanced commands but is also a great tool to control your pet especially when danger is at hand. If Fido gets excited every time he hears a speeding car approaching, the sit command can prevent him from running towards the car thus keeping him safe from possible accident.

Labrador retriever training may not be a very difficult task considering that labradors are versatile dogs. Patience, consistency along with enticing treats and positive training method will help your four-legged pet to perfect the sit command.

This skill can be taught anytime of the day provided the pup is at its best – not excited, not sick or stressed, not nervous. Stand in front of your pet and hold a treat right near his nose. It would be best to hold the treat in your closed hand so that he can only smell it. Slowly move your hand few inches upward. Naturally, he will look upward to follow your hand that is holding the treat. Give the command “sit” and say the word “good” the moment his rear touches the ground. Click to continue »
