Suet bird feeders are useful for many purposes. These feeders comes in many shapes and sizes. Suet bird feeders is a great bird feeder to attract cardinals, woodpeckers, chickadees or blue jays like bigger birds. Suet is great food to feed the birds during cold seasons. During cold temperatures Suet keeps birds warm, making it the perfect food for cold weather feeding. Suet is a piece of animal fat that you put inside a container covered with wire. The holes of the container has to be big enough to allow the birds to pick at the fat. Suet bird feeders will attract those types of birds which will not come to other types of feeders. There are various styles of upside-down suet feeders are available in market that only clinging birds can use. Building a suet bird feeder is easy with two small plates of wood attached together with 6 inches long wood sticks, a rope to hang it with and some wire with holes of a half of an inch wrapped around the sticks, creating a caged area on the middle to put the suet.

For clinging birds, bottom suet bird feeders are specially made, birds like woodpeckers, to hang from and feed. For some species of woodpecker, such as pileated woodpeckers, a tail prop is good. It is simply a paddle that extends from the bottom of the feeder, since these birds like to have support under their long tail. With proper techniques and by placing suet bird feeders in the shade during summer season, suet bird food can be offered all year. Suet attracts bird like Downy Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Black-capped Chickadee, Boreal Chickadee, Pileated Woodpecker, Three Toed Woodpecker, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Black-backed Woodpecker, White-breasted Nuthatch, Blue Jay, Purple Finch, Gray Jay, American Crow, Black-billed Magpie, Common Raven etc.
