water precautions

Water precautions are essential for fish tanks. Tap water may contain chlorine or chloromine or Ammonia. These are harmful for your fish. These should be removed. To remove Chloromine and Chlorine put the water under direct sunlight for 24 to 36 hrs. Their are many ways to remove chlorine and chloromine. Use cycling your tank to reduce the Ammonia. You should also know the pH level of water. When pH level is under 7 it is acidic and when pH level is over 7 then it is alkaline. Salt water fish prefer alkaline water whereas freshwater fish prefer acidic water. pH level for Freshwater fish should be between 5.5 to 7.5. Whereas for Saltwater fish it should be more than 8.0. You can test the pH level of your fish tank water by test kits from you pet store. You should know the pH level of the water before adding new fish to your tank. Sudden change in the pH level could kill fish. Check the pH level from where you bought the fish and check the pH level of your tank. Both of them should be same.
